Background

As part of a rebranding process, the client faced a technical hurdle: While the new website designs were already completed and an initial WordPress implementation was in place, the setup proved too inflexible for the project's requirements. It lacked the solid foundation required for long-term operations. Therefore, the website could not be launched with the current architecture.

Approach

Rather than attempting to patch the existing solution, it was decided to rebuild the website on a robust technical foundation while preserving the original designs.

Transitioning to a Headless CMS architecture offered several advantages:

  • A custom-made interface, specifically designed for the site's content structure, allows for intuitive and error-free editing. New pages can be freely assembled from reusable components.
  • The website is built on a unified TypeScript codebase instead of relying on a fragmented plugin-dependent stack, improving maintainability.
  • An optimized frontend implementation allows for significantly faster loading speeds and an improved user experience.

Solution

  • A Next.js Frontend implements the design through a modular component structure.
  • Payload CMS provides editorial flexibility through its block-based content model.
  • An automated deployment setup with a dedicated staging environment minimizes risks during the go-live process.
  • Documentation of the content model and editorial workflows ensures smooth handovers.

Result

A fragile setup was replaced with a reliable, high-performance corporate website. Due to the clean separation of content and layout, content updates can now be performed efficiently and without unexpected technical issues.
